Yamaha unveils the new YZF-R25. New 250cc on the market.
The first rumors we received on the Yamaha YZF-R25 were back on 2012 when Yamaha presented a concept called Yamaha YZF 250 on the EICMA of that year. During most part of 2013 we didn't saw any relevant news about this new model while the other major motorcycle companies were releasing their starter bikes, Kawasaki Ninja 300, Honda CBR 300. Even KTM launched a starter Duke. The three diapason company was getting left behind, it's last sporty 2500cc model on Europe was released 1986 and it was the two stroke TZR 250.
Finally on the EICMA of 2013 another concept was released, this time its name was changed, now it was the Yamaha YZF R-25, a sports bike with some radical concepts that brought certain similarities to the Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP. This time we received a video, on which Valentino Rossi rode with the bike on a circuit and said that "this bike really packs a punch". Also Yamaha released that this bike was going to be powered by newly designed a parallel twin 249cc liquid cooled and fuel injected engine, similar to those already set up on the Kawasaki ninja 300 or the Honda cbr 300.
Things were getting serious. Yamaha showed the concept bike once again on the Auto Expo on India on February. Again, Yamaha didn't disclosed any technical details besides the already known details of the engine. The bike displayed only one seat, no headlights or rear mirrors or blinkers and the influence from the Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP was still extremely evident. It seemed that Yamaha still didn't know what front design to put on the new bike. But Yamaha said that this bike was going to be present in all markets, for Europe and Japan this would be an "entry level sport bike" but for markets such as India among other developing countries this would be a top performance sport bike.
On May some pictures started to arise on the internet, showing a production ready Yamaha YZF-R25. It seemed to remain the size and length of the concept shown in EICMA and Auto Expo but this time it had blinkers, read mirrors and a headlight very similar to those on its bigger brothers such as the Yamaha R6 or Yamaha R1.
More so, Yamaha released a website called www.iwantyamahar25.com, the first 250 orders would win a signed helmet from Valentino Rossi itself and a contest would give 5 leather jackets VR26.
By the end of May, Yamaha finally revealed on Indonesia the Yamaha YZF-R25. The specifications on the engine remains the same, it's capable of offering 36 hp at 12.000 rpm and a max torque of 2,3 kgm at 10.000 rpm, it's dry weight is 166 kg. As seen on the leaked pictures, it has a frontal design clearly inspired on its bigger brothers. Although it's a very sporty looking bike the position on the handlers it's more upright than expected, making it more comfortable. It carries the technology called DiASil (Die casting Aluminion-Silicon) which makes cylinders much more light and improves heat dissipation. Brakes are monodisc both front and rear, although the front has a double piston very similar to the bigger YZF. It has some basic frontal fork and suspension, which will contribute to a much more contained price, which is expected to be around 4600 dollars or 3300 euros. It is known that it will be fabricated on Indonesia and will be exported to the rest of the world from there. There's rumors that for the European market Yamaha will release a new model called Yamaha YZF-R3, which is expected to be the same motorcycle only with a bigger engine that can compete with the Kawasaki Ninja 300 or the Honda CBR 300. For Singapore we don't have details for the price, but it's expected that the Yamaha YZF-R25 has the same price as the rest of the world. On Singapore, you will need a Class 2A license for driving the Yamaha YZF-R25
The Yamaha YZF-R25 it's offered on Racing Blue, Predator Black o Diablo Red colors.
