Yamaha Issues 4th Recall Affecting MT-03

Powered by a lively 321cc, parallel twin cylinder engine and equipped with an easy-to-handle chassis, it seems that there is unfortunately yet another problem with the Yamaha MT-03.

This fourth recall is because of a machining defect that makes the gears noisy. The official notice was given by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, stating that the machining defect in the primary drive and driven meshing gears could make the bike excessively noisy during acceleration and engine revs increase when shifting through gear ratios.

“The noise generated may exceed the regulated Australian Design Rule (ADR) external noise level standards for this model.” The notice states.

Previous recalls were due to fuel leakage due to the spot weld of the bracket possible breaking as well as corrosion of switch electrical terminals leading to loss of electrical power and engine stalling. The latest recall, on the other hand, was because the clutch pressure plate bearing may fail when operated frequently, which means the transmission will not shift properly and the engine may seize due to a lack of engine oil supply.

While recalls may be troublesome, it ultimately shows the manufacturer’s diligence in fixing problems so that we as motorcyclists will be able to have a better quality riding experience.

Owners of the affected bikes will be asked to notify their local Yamaha dealer in which they will be able to arrange for a free repair.
