“Group rides are an important AMA activity, and this workshop is offered to current AMA members at no charge as way to sharpen their skills as road captains. It’s a great way to learn about planning the route, handling paperwork, preparing for emergencies, using hand signals and taking actions that help improve group rides,” said Heather Wilson, AMA Recreational Riding Manager, on two newly announced ‘Road Captain’ workshops. Starting April 7 at the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, the workshops will focus on teaching motorists various aspects of leading a group motorcycle ride.

The next time you and your buddies hit the road on your bikes, you can take the lead.

Group bike riding is not a new concept. Anyone who has a group of friends who loves to ride bikes will have already been in a riding excursion. As they say, the more the merrier. Friendships get stronger, their knowledge of each other gets deeper, as with their bikes, and they become closer.

However, it is also the quickest way to find out who the unofficial ‘leader’ of the pack is. More often than not, this said leader will be in the front to lead. But what happens if there are two such people? Here is where the Road Captain workshops will come in handy as they will teach you how to handle such tricky situations.‘AMA EAGLES’ training will teach you how to handle. Spanning Education, Activism, Growth, Leadership, Expertise, and Skills, you will be empowered with knowledge, tools, and resources tailored to your specific interests.

There will be two Road Captain sessions – one in the morning, from 10 a.m. to noon, and an afternoon session from 1-3 p.m. AMA EAGLES workshops, conducted by AMA Volunteer and State Chapters Manager Marie Wuelleh, will be offered simultaneously – one from 9.30 a.m. to noon, and another from 1-3:30 p.m.

“Although EAGLES can be completed online at a member’s own pace,” Wuelleh explained, “often an interactive group environment is more fun and allows members to ask questions and get immediate feedback.”

Road Captain workshops are limited to 30 participants (and are filling up quickly), while EAGLES workshops are limited to 15. Those who manage to finish the latter program will be given an AMA EAGLES certificate and patch.
