From Heartland Roots to Factory-Built Customs

Thunder Motorcycle originates from a collaboration between Japanese custom builders and one of China’s premier custom bike manufacturers. Established with its own factory in 2021, Thunder gained full control over production—from design to assembly—ensuring quality and precision with every build.

As a Japan-based brand, Thunder differentiates itself in several key ways:

  1. It designs bikes using 3D-modeled frames and parts, many patterned after Harley-Davidson’s widely used 74‑style springer forks.

  2. It stocks consumables and option parts in Japanese warehouses, allowing speedy access for replacement or customization needs.

  3. Thunder provides a robust post-sales service: purchases through authorized dealers include a 1-year warranty with a required 3-month or 1,000 km inspection.

This blend of Japanese precision, custom-build philosophy, and factory-level efficiency defines Thunder’s brand DNA.

Malaysian Debut: Factory-Built Choppers Without the Hassle

Thunder Motorcycle made a striking debut at Art of Speed 2025, turning heads with two factory-built choppers—the Softail 250 and Hardtail 250—soon to land in Malaysia this October 2025 .

These models offer an affordable cruise into custom bike culture, priced at around RM 24,000 each, with just 100 units in the initial launch batch.

Powered by a 249 cc V‑Twin engine, both deliver 17 hp at 8,000 rpm and 19 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm, paired with a smooth 5‑speed manual transmission.

The main visual and technical difference lies in the rear structure:

  • The Hardtail lacks rear suspension for that classic rigid look.

  • The Softail maintains rear suspension—blending comfort with chopper styling

Both models showcase minimalist design cues: chrome detailing, airbrushed paintwork, stripped-down instrumentation, and springer front forks. They ride on single hydraulic disc brakes with two-channel ABS, weigh around 181 kg (with 7 L fuel), and feature a low 650 mm seat height.

In Japan, the Softail retails around ¥905,455 (~RM 25,865), while the Hardtail is priced at ¥850,000 (~RM 24,281), making the Malaysian pricing particularly competitive.

Why Malaysia? Why Thunder Now?

Thunder’s expansion into Malaysia marks its first significant step into Southeast Asia, targeting the country’s growing appetite for custom and cruiser-style bikes.

By entering with factory-built customs, Thunder offers achieving chopper style without the hassle of aftermarket modifications. This appeals especially to younger riders or first-time cruiser buyers seeking both aesthetics and reliability—all in a ready-to-ride package.

A Fusion of Craftsmanship and Custom Culture

Thunder Motorcycle’s arrival in Malaysia brings more than two new models—it brings a narrative of crafted heritage, streamlined quality, and accessible custom culture.

With the Softail 250 and Hardtail 250, priced at around RM 24,000 each and available this October, Thunder offers a compelling blend: sleek chopper swagger built in modern factories, backed by Japanese design sensibility and streamlined aftersales.

Expect Thunder to bring a true bang... or maybe a thunder—to Malaysia’s cruiser scene.
