The much awaited Honda 2018 Gold Wing finally revealed
Ever since the Honda Gold Wing’s inception in 1975, it has been a popular model among riders. The Honda 2018 Gold Wing was unveiled at Santa Barbara, Museum of Exploration and Innovation, in California. Read on to know more about this remarkable bike. There are three variants of the Gold Wing – the GL1800 Gold Wing (Base), Gold Wing Tour, and Tour DCT.

The Gold Wing comes with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, or the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). The DCT includes a “walking mode”, allowing the rider to inch both forwards and backwards. For the manual gearbox, the reverse function is similar to its previous iteration. The installation of the DCT will set you back an additional $1000.
The Gold Wing features a fly-by-wire throttle, along with four ride modes – Tour, Rain, Econ, and Sport. Features such as Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) sustains traction of rear wheels, Hill Start Assist (HAS) utilizes ABS to stop the Gold Wing on a slope, and the Idling Stop system stops the engine after three seconds of idling. This reduces fuel consumption and boosts fuel efficiency.

Overall, Honda 2018 Gold Wing is approximately 40kg lighter than its predecessors. The main bulk removed was the 1833cc liquid-cooled, six-cylinder engine, which is lighter by approximately 1.8kg. The weight reduction, combined with a new double-wishbone front end, makes handling much easier. Aerodynamically, Honda has taken things up a notch too – air is now channelled through ducts. This leads to a smoother flow of air, making riding a breeze (no pun intended), especially in humid weather. Furthermore, with the addition of an electric windscreen, the rider has increased control over air circulation.

One significant feature of the Honda 2018 Gold Wing is undoubtedly the Apple CarPlay function. Riders are able to seamlessly connect their iPhone to the motorcycle itself, and the interface shows up on the brand new 7-inch LCD screen, right in the middle of the dashboard. Riders simply have to connect their iPhone to the motorcycle via USB. A Bluetooth headset, to access voice functions, is required as well.

With the new awesome smart key, you need not poke the key into the keyhole anymore. Just need to press start and ready to ride. The overall outlook of the key really gives you the "Bentley" Motorcycle feel.
The Honda 2018 Gold Wing arrives in Australia February 2018. The basic model machine price of the Gold Wing will cost you $23,500 while the Gold Wing Tour will set you back slightly more at $26,700. It is currently unknown if the Gold Wing will be available in Singapore. With the ARF & COE factor in, the price maybe double of it.
