According to ICA, the passport was revamped in mind to make it more difficult to be tampered with or replicated. The new design also fulfills the requirements stipulated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. The two new security features are a window lock, with an image of the holder inside the window, as well as surface transformation design in the shape of Vanda ‘Miss Joaquim’, the Singapore national flower. Improved features include an embossed tactile design, Multiple Laser Image (MLI), and Diffractive Optically Variable Image Device (DOVID).

Application for the new passport is still capped at S$80. Applicants of the new passport, from October 21 onwards, will be able to get their hands on them starting October 30. From October 30 to November 15, the passports (regardless if you are collecting the existing or new designs) are to be collected in the ICA Building a stone throw away from Lavender MRT station.

Fret not, the current passport is still valid for travel. However, if you are interested in obtaining the newly designed passport and your existing passport has yet to expire, you will still be required to fork out the S$80 application fee.
