Royal Enfield’s Himalayan Adventure Bike Is The Perfect Companion While Travelling

Looking for a new adventure? Here’s one for you. Royal Enfield’s Himalayan has just been released to the UK and will be coming to the US in the summer of this year for £4,199 and $4,499 respectively.

The “purpose-built for adventure” Himalayan is an easy entry into the adventure market, but what does your money get you?

While the Himalayan’s stayed true to Royal Enfield’s no-frills tradition, it’s an all-new platform, not a Bullet in trail clothes. With its signature 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled unit under the tank, the Himalayan is a capable, mid-powered tourer. It makes 24.5bhp, at 25.8lb-ft at 4,500 rpm – more than enough for adventures on and off the road.

The half-duplex split-cradle frame is suspended by a long-travel (200 mm) front fork and a monoshock with linkage (180 mm travel) at the rear. The front wheel’s 21 inches and the rear is 17 inches, both spoked and disc-equipped. The seat height is 31.5 inches, just a bit taller than Suzuki's V-Strom 250. A manageable seat height helps greenhorn adventurers feel confident in the saddle.

And with a four-gallon tank and a curb weight of 410 pounds, the Himalayan sounds adventure-worthy so far.

In addition, the Himalayan’s uncluttered styling is echoed on the dash, with a simple instrument displaying speed, direction, temperature, travel time, service intervals and multiple trip distances. It has two colour options of ‘Snow’ and ‘Granite’ and the Sleet special edition release only in India.
