Over 200 Affected by Zero Motorcycles’ Recall

Posted On : 17-04-2018

Zero Motorcycles, the Californian based manufacturer of 100% electric motorcycles, will be recalling their 2012 models. 218 motorcycles will be affected by this recall, as they include all 2012 Zero S, Zero DS and Zero DSP (Police) models.

The reason for this recall is because there is reportedly an issue with the cell pouches inside the vehicles’ battery pack. With continued contact with their holders, the friction may cause some wear in the battery packs, and this allows humidity to enter the pouch. This can potentially cause an electrical short - a problem that may even result in a fire.

Owners of the affected bikes are advised by Zero not to take them out for a spin or to even charge them. Instead, the company will notify the affected owners and give them either the choice of having their motorcycles fixed or brought back for a financial trade-assist towards a newer model year Zero.

The recall will be expected to commence at the end of this month.
