New system to be implemented next year that targets motorists
By the end of next year, a new and stricter system will be implemented to help the authorities catch motorists who do not pay the expected fees at the Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints.
The payment process is currently independently done by motorists with a relatively lax supervision from the authorities. While their passports are being inspected by officers of the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore, motorists can pay the toll by inserting their CashCards or Autopass into the payment machines just outside the booths where the officers will then lift the barriers.

With the new system, however, subsequent amount of warnings will be given to motorists to make the payments necessary and if not made, the lifting of the barriers will be delayed along with an audio message as a reminder.
Not only that, Land Transport Authority (LTA) officers will also be notified about unmade payments. This is an addition to their response measure against this ongoing measure with motorists cheating the system; stricter penalties were already announced last year which included Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fees fixed Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) fees after it was reported that there were about 2,200 monthly cases of motorists evading the toll payment at the checkpoints.
The repercussions for not paying the required fees are: $50 dollars for first-time offenders, $100 for repeat offenders. LTA officers are already seeing the positive outcome as revenue losses have reduced to fewer than 4%.
It is a shame that it we don’t inherently follow the rules and pay what is required of us. But hopefully, through the implementation of this new system, more will do the right thing and surrender to the process.
