KTM AG has expanded its presence in Asia by opening an assembly plant in Laguna Technopark in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, on June 6. The KTM joint venture is part of the Ayala Automative Group and is in partnership with Ayala Corp and KTM Asia Motorcycle Manufacturing Inc. (KAMMI) with a goal to produce 10,000 units yearly.

The KTM plant in the Philippines is planned to produce four of the Austrian marque’s Street models which are the Duke 200, Duke 390, RC200, and RC390. It has been reported that 500 motorcycles have already been rolled off the production line, starting to assemble Duke 200s and RC 200s earlier this year. But apart from local sales, KAMMI is planning on exporting their production to the Chinese market as well.
Santos said that the opening of the KTM plant in Laguna was an effort to boost the country’s economy as it provides jobs, supply chain opportunities, and helps put the country in the map as a center for innovation and industrialization.
“This new plant at Laguna and in the Philippines is another fantastic example of how we are managing to take the KTM brand to new corners of the world,” said KTM Asia Motorcycle Manufacturing President Hubert Trunkenpolz, “and touch fresh markets and riders.
“It’s a really exciting time of progression for the company. We’re very keen to see how the facility will develop.”
