Category D Climbs By S$798 In Just One Bidding Round, Pushing Motorcycle COE Firmly Beyond The S$11,000 Mark.

Singapore’s motorcycle COE premium has climbed sharply again, with Category D closing at S$11,301 in the August 2026 Second Open Bidding Exercise on 19 August 2026. The latest result represents a sizeable increase from the S$10,503 recorded in the first August bidding round and keeps motorcycle COE firmly above the S$10,000 mark. More importantly, the latest exercise saw a noticeable rise in bidding activity, with 686 bids received for a quota of 512 motorcycle COEs. For riders planning to purchase and register a new motorcycle in Singapore, the latest increase adds another layer of cost and shows just how quickly Category D premiums can move when bidding competition strengthens.

Motorcycle COE Jumps S$798 to S$11,301

The biggest talking point from the latest exercise is the sharp movement in Category D, which rose from S$10,503 in August Round 1 to S$11,301 in August Round 2. That is an increase of S$798, or approximately 7.60%, in just one bidding exercise. The Prevailing Quota Premium (PQP) shown for Category D stands at S$10,366, meaning the latest S$11,301 quota premium is also S$935 above the current PQP. Compared with July 2026 Round 1, when motorcycle COE closed at S$10,201, the latest premium is now S$1,100 higher, highlighting how quickly the cost of securing a new motorcycle COE has risen in recent bidding exercises.

686 Bids Chase a Quota of Just 512 Motorcycle COEs

Demand was particularly noticeable in the bidding figures. A total of 686 bids were received for the 512 Category D COEs available, meaning there were 174 more bids than the available quota. Of those bids, 501 were successful, while 185 were unsuccessful, and 11 COEs were recorded as unused. Compared with the first August exercise, which received 591 motorcycle bids for a quota of 521, the latest round attracted 95 additional bids even though the quota decreased by nine. This combination of stronger bidding interest and slightly lower supply helps explain the upward pressure seen in the final S$11,301 premium and suggests that competition among motorcycle buyers and dealers intensified significantly during the second half of August.

Category D Wasn’t the Only COE to Rise

The August 2026 Second Open Bidding Exercise also produced high premiums across Singapore’s other vehicle categories. Category A closed at S$128,501, with 1,600 bids received against a quota of 1,197, while Category B reached S$131,001, with 1,316 bids competing for 936 COEs. Category C, covering goods vehicles and buses, was the exception to the broader upward movement and closed at S$90,002. Meanwhile, Category E, the Open Category that excludes motorcycles, climbed to S$135,000. Although these figures show continued pressure across Singapore’s vehicle ownership market, Category D remains especially important to riders because motorcycles must be registered using their dedicated motorcycle COE category.

What the S$11,301 COE Means for Singapore Motorcycle Buyers

For prospective motorcycle buyers, a S$11,301 Category D COE means the certificate alone now represents a substantial portion of the total cost of putting a motorcycle on the road. The sharp 7.60% increase in a single bidding round, together with the rise from 591 to 686 bids between August’s two exercises, is a reminder that motorcycle COE premiums can react quickly when demand strengthens. Whether the premium will continue climbing in the next exercise remains uncertain, as future results will depend on bidding behaviour and the available quota. For now, however, the message for Singapore’s riding community is clear: motorcycle COE has not only remained above S$10,000—it has surged past S$11,000 to S$11,301, putting the latest premium firmly back in the spotlight.
