The cotton candy pink smoke was featured at this year’s edition of the South Coast Bike Fest, befitting the annual festival’s theme of celebrating the vibrant, all-inclusive biking spirit.
Hailing from Pimville, ‘King Donut’ is a biker known for his extreme stunts and has indeed lived up to his reputation as he showed off some fancy moves on his Yamaha R1 and MT10, sponsored by Yamaha SA.
Founder of the successful Soweto Motorbike School, where he instructs upcoming riders, Matamela thinks that his tenacity and passion for motorcycles were some of the main reasons for his achievements. He also feels that “biking has instilled a culture of bringing a flair to several flagship events and jovial atmosphere to towns when they ride along.”
In relation to the South Coast Bike Fest, Matamela also commented: “These festivals are important to the biking community which was previously associated with gangs. The festivals rid us of this stigma and show we are a close community. They also give us a chance to show off our skills. Excellence has no skin colour.”

Other prominent bikers featured at the festival include Max Rabalago and Piwe Zulu, who are also proud to be a part of the fast-growing black biking fraternity.
“It’s bring people from different walks of life together, affording the previously disadvantaged community an opportunity to participate and be exposed in the festivities which will in turn bring spin-offs in terms of business and tourism opportunities,” said Rabalago.
Indeed, the South Coast Bike Fest, which took place from 27th to 30th April, is constantly raising the bar with its celebrations. This year, the programme reflected the camaraderie of the biking community as well as the incredible South African talents on the two-wheeled machines, exposing both new and returning visitors to the beautiful South Coast
The exciting festival also allowed visitors to visit eight festival-themed bars, a corporate dealership deck as well as 22 onsite clubs, pubs and restaurants catering to various interests and tastes.
