Metzeler Tire Remains Official Tire For AMA Supermoto Championship

Posted On : 15-02-2018

Metzeler Tire has agreed to continue its partnership with the AMA Supermoto Championship and return as the championship’s official tire for the fifth consecutive season. The 2018 season will expand to a total of six rounds held throughout the United States and Canada, beginning with the season opener in Boise, Idaho, on April 14. The cross-discipline sport has consistently challenged the best motorcycle racers in the world by requiring skills on both pavement and dirt.

“We saw the continued excitement and energy that Alexander Mock and his crew have been putting into growing the series and Metzeler wants to support their efforts,” said Oscar Solis, road racing manager, Metzeler. “We’re continuously pushing the R&D and implementing new performance characteristics into our Metzeler RACETEC SM tires, which are the perfect weapon for the AMA Supermoto Championship and all other Supermoto races.”

The Metzeler RACETEC SM tires use technology from the RACETEC RR and have been designed to provide the ultimate balance of performance for supermoto racing. The rear tire is available in 165/55R/17 sizing and offers three different options with KO, K1, and K2 compounds, plus a fourth option specifically developed for rain conditions. The central and shoulder notches feature a unique design that allows the tire to self-clean, which increases handling performance on dirt sections.

Two different front tire sizes are available – 125/75R/17 and 125/75R/16.5 – with both offering K1 and K2 compounds. The 17-inch tire features a lower profile that enhances agility and confidence when making quick changes of direction, while the 16.5-inch tire increases grip and versatility. A rain option is also available on the front for wet conditions.

“We’re thrilled to have Metzeler return as the official tire of the AMA Supermoto Championship,” said Alexander Mock, president of AMA Supermoto. “Each season we continue to experience growth for the sport at an exponential rate. The continued progress would not be possible without a company like Metzeler who is constantly burning the midnight oil to further the development of its products, enabling riders to take their riding to the next level.”
