Meet BMW's Very Own Shark on Land: The Titan Concept

Posted On : 29-12-2017

Titans were members of Olympian deities if we were to follow Greek mythology. Mother Earth (Gaia) and Father Sky (Uranus) were said to have 12 offsprings of incredible strength who went on to rule the Golden Age.  It comes as no surprise, therefore, that BMW’s ‘Titan’ embodies that raw and menacing power that inhabited the Greek gods.

The German powerhouse collaborated with Turkish Mehmet Doruk Erdem to design a new vaporware concept. Erdem has had experience with several past motorcycle concepts for BMW and, although they were all impressive, “the Titan is arguably his best work yet,” according to BMW.

The Titan has an uncanny resemblance to that of a shark and many have even commented that it looks like something Bruce Wayne might consider upgrading to.

Inspired by the predatory species, the Titan was made to be fast, with a reported 376mph land speed. Its formidable body, also inspired by the shark, is to improve its aerodynamics with its rear wheel as the tail, its sides the fins, and the air-intake system acting as its gills. It features an airtight front end to reduce resistance while also channeling airflow towards the ‘gills’ at the rear end of the vehicle to cool the engine.

Other special attributes are contained within the cockpit including metrics like suspension status, cooling system operation, and area-specific temperatures. True to the classic nature of BMW, its leather seat makes up for all the hard lines and ruggedness the Titan exudes. To top it all off, the turbo-powered engine is connected to the rear tire by an enclosed swing arm for an, even more, Batmobile look.

However, despite its cool appearance, and an even cooler interior, we might not see it come into production. One can only hope, though, that when BMW does decide to make this, we will see it conquering speed races to fulfill its original purpose: to break land speed records.
