Marc VDS Racing Team's Rookie, Franco Morbidelli, Is Quickly Improving on the Race Tracks

Posted On : 14-12-2017

The reigning Moto2 World Champion, Franco Morbidelli, was announced to be working with the EG 0,0 Marc VDS MotoGP team after extending his contract for two more years and an upgrade to the premier class with the inclusion of another one-year extension should the Italian so desire. This means he will be with the team for the 2020 season if he goes with the Marc VDS team for a third year.

Although Marc van der Straden, President of Marc VDS Racing Team, saw Morbidellis as “an unknown quantity”, he “took a chance” on the 23 year-old because of the potential he could see in him. “It was a good decision on our part,” he said, “because he’s not only realised his potential, his progress had actually far exceeded our expectations.”

And truth be told, a significant improvement was seen in Morbidelli’s performance on his second day at the Jerez MotoGP test where three out of four MotoGP rookies are given their bikes to train with alongside their team members.

Morbidelli mentioned that the tremendous challenge of being part of the premier class is one that he is “looking forward to”. He is probably hoping to have a better season with the Marc VDS team unlike his predecessor, Tito Rabat, who had a difficult two years with them.

He came in as eleventh, ahead of Takaaki Nakagami, placing him as the quickest rookie yet.

We are excited to see how well Morbidelli will perform in the future, especially his dynamics with his new team.
