Marc Marquez Signs Two-Year Contract with HRC

Posted On : 10-07-2014

The rising star of the MotoGP championship, Marc Marquez has signed a new contract with HRC for two more years. This is hardly a surprise, we all know that Marc Marquez, the current MotoGP champion, where last year signed one of the most impressive rookie seasons in the entire history of the MotoGP championship, was the top priority for HRC, but at such a soon time in the championship raises a question on why HRC wanted to renew the world champion so soon, perhaps it was a way of closing any possible offers from Yamaha or Ducati.

Marc Marquez stated after the signing of the new contract:

"I am very happy to announce my renewal with HRC. I had always dreamed about being part of the Repsol Honda Team, and thanks to Honda, the dream came true a year and a half ago. Everything happened very quickly last season, and I would have never imagined that I could achieve what we did. Becoming World Champion during my first season was another dream turned into reality. It is a great honor to be a part of the Honda family, and I’m glad to remain with this special group of people for another two seasons.”

Marc Marquez was born on Cervera, Spain on 1993. Under the protection from Emilio Alzamora he escalated from the older 125cc class into the Moto2 class, claiming one championship on 2010 for 125cc and after a first promising year on the Moto2 class that was very difficult due to several crashes and injures he was, once again, world champion on 2012 on Moto2 class. It was expected for him to make a rise to the MotoGP class on 2013, but doubts raised since the 2 spots on HRC were taken by Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner, rumor mill began saying he would take a "camouflaged" official motorcycle from HRC into the San Carlo Honda Gresini team. Lucky for Marc Marquez, world champion Casey Stoner announced it was hanging up the leather suit and would leave MotoGP by the end of the year.

First year on MotoGP Marc Marquez won the world championship, it was a mix of luck and skills since Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa sustained serious injuries during almost half the championship and with Valentino Rossi struggling on a difficult year, which would prove to be his last, with the Ducati the road was clear for Marquez to win the world championship of MotoGP.

This year, on the other hand, Marc Marquez is proven to be a world class world champion by winning all six races that have been celebrated so far.

The market is hot this year since all the top players in MotoGP will be without contract by the end of the year. Could Jorge Lorenzo, two times world champion on MotoGP, finish up in Honda? Will Dani Pedrosa still be on HRC next year? Will Yamaha renew Valentino Rossi or perhaps they will look to hire a more young and unexperienced rider? Time will tell!
