Marc Marquez leads with 33 points after emerging first in Australian Grand Prix
Leading the pack with 269 points, ahead of #2 Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso (236 points), the three-time MotoGP World Champion inches closer to clinching the 2017 MotoGP title once again.

With an impressive time of 40 mins 49 secs on the 27 lap circuit, the Honda Repsol rider emerged victorious, behind riders Valentino Rossi (+1.799s), Maverick Vinales (+1.826s), and Johann Zarco (1.842s). It was a frantic race to the finish line in a nail bitingly close fight among the Yamaha riders. Furthermore, closest rival Dovizioso finished the race at 13th place with 21 seconds behind Marquez.

Although Marquez had the holeshot, Australian Jack Miller sped forward on Turn 2 and overtook the Spaniard. At Lap 5, Dovizioso unfortunately commits a massive mistake – as MotoGP tweeted during the race – by running wide, dropping him down to the 20th position.
Following on, a group of seven, including Valentino Rossi and Andrea Iannone, began to lead. Tensions rose as the riders constantly overtook one another. It was a fierce battle on the Phillip Island circuit as Marquez eventually passed the others on Lap 21. The Yamaha riders vied for second place in an intense and close fight, but Rossi managed to pull through for the 2nd place. Vinales settled for 3rd place, while ‘Rookie of the Year’ is awarded to Zarco who rounded up in 4th place. British Cal Crutchlow secured 5th place, while Italian Andrea Iannone trails behind at 6th place.

Having the upper hand with an advantage of 33 points, Marc Marquez is poised to win the championship. His next challenge will be the Malaysian GP at the Sepang Circuit on 29 October, 3pm (Singapore Time). With Vinales eliminated from the championship race, Dovizioso is the sole rider left to challenge. We wish the riders all the best for the upcoming race, which will be their second last MotoGP race this year.
