Hoo-Hoo-Hooligans Unite! Super Hooligan Racing Now A National Championship

Posted On : 07-01-2018

What began as friendly competition between amateur riders and their amateur street bikes quickly became an American Flat Track-backed professional track racing. The objective of ‘Hooligan racing’ was to race 750cc (minimum) bikes in a stock main frame that was borne from a hardcore group of ‘blue collar’ riders in Southern California four or five years ago.

From a hooligan to a professional, the ‘glo-up’ does not get any better than that.

They built and raced Harley-Davidson Sportsters, participating in any track that includes a hooligan or Harley class, basically entry-level racing. And it was supposed to stay that way until the marketability of the series caught the eyes of suppliers and parts suppliers. On top of that, the most malleable target audience, the youth, has started to become interested in it as well. Roland Sands of ‘Roland Sands Design’ has even built a ‘Superhooligan’, converting a number of Indian Scout 60s into trackers.

Because the up-and-coming class of the hooligans was important to Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles, two of AFT’s biggest supporters, they were not about to let go of the hooligans despite the disapproval of their pro teams and riders. Two years ago, the hooligans were a part of upstart events such as ‘Flat Track Friday’ and the ‘X Games’.

Time and money were already being spent on the hooligans, but an even bigger wave was about to wipe them off of their feet. A 10-round national championship of hooligan racing was announced, organized by RSD and backed by Indian, Bell, and Dunlop, including prize money at every round. Furthermore, a $50,000 Indian Scout FTR750 will be given to the series champion.

Super Hooligan Racing is becoming increasingly popular with Sportsters, Scouts, Harleys, Street XG750s, Ducati Scramblers, and more being raced.
