Stronger Focus on Hybrids and Priority Markets

A key highlight of Honda’s new strategy is the reallocation of resources toward hybrid vehicles, which are currently seeing strong demand. Starting in 2027, Honda plans to launch next-generation hybrid models using an all-new hybrid system and platform, with 15 next-generation hybrid models planned globally by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2030. North America, Japan and India have been identified as priority markets, with Honda preparing large-size hybrid models for North America, expanding EV and hybrid offerings in Japan, and introducing India-focused models from 2028 to capture customers moving up from motorcycles to cars.

New Technology Cost Reduction and Manufacturing Efficiency

Honda is also working to reduce the cost of its next-generation hybrid system by more than 30 percent compared with its 2023 hybrid system. By combining this system with a new platform and electric AWD unit, Honda aims to improve fuel economy by more than 10 percent while keeping the driving feel enjoyable and uniquely Honda. The company will also use AI, digital development tools and a “Triple Half” approach to cut development cost, timeframe and workload by half. At the production level, Honda aims to improve manufacturing efficiency by around 20 percent over the next five years.

Motorcycle Business Remains a Major Growth Driver

Honda’s motorcycle business remains one of its strongest global pillars, with the worldwide motorcycle market expected to reach around 60 million units by 2030. To capture this growth, Honda plans to introduce more products that match increasingly diverse customer needs, especially in Asia and Central and South America. The brand will also continue using original technologies such as the Honda E-Clutch to stand apart from emerging competitors. In India, Honda plans to expand annual motorcycle production capacity from 6.25 million units to around 8 million units by 2028, while strengthening India as a global export hub.

Long Term Vision for Profitability Sustainability and Governance

Honda’s overall strategy is not only about short-term recovery but also long-term transformation. The company will continue pursuing carbon neutrality by 2050 through a multi-pathway approach that includes EVs, hybrids, carbon-neutral fuels and carbon-offset technologies. At the same time, Honda will control EV-related investment, continue development of future EV platforms and all-solid-state batteries, and expand software investment through technologies such as ASIMO OS. With stronger governance, improved capital allocation and stable shareholder returns, Honda is positioning itself for a more flexible, profitable and sustainable future.
