Honda CB1000R returns with a bang - embodying the Honda Neo Sports Cafe concept

Posted On : 07-11-2017

The Honda Neo Sports Café concept has finally materialized – in the recently unveiled 2018 Honda CB1000R during the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy.

Honda has adopted a more retro approach to the production of this super naked bike. Boasting a traditional style, the 998cc bike embodies the aforementioned Honda Neo Sports Café concept. The concept has been revealed a few weeks ago and has been described by Honda as a ‘naked sport model that combines the fun and beauty of a sport bike with a new-generation motorcycle package‘.

Apart from being aesthetically pleasing, there are upgrades to the technology of the bike. To start off, the suspension is handled by fully adjustable Showa upside-down Separate Function Fork- Big piston unit and a Showa rearshock. Chassis wise, the CB1000R has a new backbone steel frame as well as an aluminium single-sided swingarm. The length of the swingarm has been reduced by ~1.2cm while the frame has been lightened by ~2.5kg.

Courtesy of Throttle-by-Wire, the bike now features four different riding modes – Sport, Standard, Rain, and User. Traction control, engine braking, and engine power settings are all enabled. Presence of a slipper-assist clutch lightens the pull on the lever and smoothens your transition to a lower gear. The rear tyre, a 180/55 ZR17 on the previous iteration, has been changed to 190/55.
Engine-wise, the liquid-cooled DOHC 4 cylinder has been retained, save a few modifications. Pistons are now forged, rather than cast, while the compression ratio has been increased from 11:2:1 to 11:6:1. It is able to deliver an output of 143.5 hp at 10,500rpm and 104Nm of torque at 8,250rpm.

Ergonomically, tweaks have been made to ensure the rider journeys in comfort. The aluminium handlebars are now ~1.25cm wider and higher for a more relaxed riding position. Headlights and taillights are LED.

If you are interested in the above features, you might be eager to know about the upcoming release of the CB1000R+, with extra features and accessories such as a hugger panel and a quickshifter.

Pricing for the bike is currently unreleased. The bike is slated to launch early next year in Europe and will be available in the U.S during summer next year. It is unknown if the bike will be launching in Singapore.
