Currently, Harley-Davidson is the largest premium motorcycle manufacturer in India, having started operations in the country since 2009.

But with competition from rival motorcycle companies such as Triumph and Ducati, Harley-Davidson India has to further set themselves apart, and so the used premium motorcycle segment was launched.
This was confirmed by the managing director of Harley-Davidson India, Peter Mackenzie himself, during an inauguration of a new showroom in Chennai. According to the director, Harley-Davidson has already begun a pilot program for some of the dealerships across the country, in an effort to test the waters.
“Some of the company’s dealerships were already testing the concept for the last few months. We are currently piloting itn in a few dealerships. And, we are very close to rolling out the programme, nationally,” Mackenzie stated.

The reason for this move is because Harley-Davidson believes that the used bike segment will be able to help the company attract more customers. After all, the Milwaukee based company is facing a decline in sales, but I digress.
But, with a legitimate used motorbike program from Harley-Davidson itself, the company could open its doors to a whole new customer base. As there are possibly many Harley-Davidson enthusiasts in India who may not be able to afford a brand-new motorcycle, the next best move would be to purchase a secondhand machine. And with the launch of the used bikes program, Harley-Davidson will be able to tap into previously untouched potential.
As part of this new program, Harley-Davidson is planning to launch new showrooms as well as use existing showrooms to showcase used motorbikes in India.
Other methods the motorbike company used to appeal to more customers include opening branded apparel stores in malls and shopping complexes across the country.
Harley-Davidson is also planning to launch an electric bike line in conjunction with the current growth of electric motorbikes within the motorcycle industry.
