Green Honda Celebrates More than 5 Million Units In Joint Motorcycle Production
It’s time to pop the champagne as Honda celebrates new success in Malaysia venture.

She is Singapore’s neighbour and long-term ally, whose descendants make up 13.4% of the country’s population. She was known as the ‘Federation of Malaya’ in 1957 after gaining independence from the United Kingdom, the same year that Honda Motor Co. began sales in Penang and, almost 12 years later, began production in ’69 through its local business partner Loh Boon Siew. Now, she is simply Malaysia who, just two days ago, celebrated an overwhelming amount of cumulative motorcycle production that exceeded 5 million units with the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer.

Honda and Oriental Holdings, a local conglomerate, in a joint business venture, created Boon Siew Honda with the former holding a 51% stake and the latter owning the rest.
Already, the Malaysian enterprise has set a target to produce 6 million units by 2023 while simultaneously promoting environmentally friendly models. This falls in line with Malaysia’s goal to produce energy-efficient vehicles by 2020. In fact, it was in 2016 when Boon Siew Honda obtained the necessary certification for one of its models, the first in the country to do so. Five of their models have been certified as energy-efficient ever since.
They seem ready and perfectly capable to meet their set goals as, in 2013, a new factory was built in Batu Kawan with a sophisticated production process, one that cost them 200 million ringgit, which is about SG$22 million and US$48 million.
