According to an interview with RideApart, Klawitter had been thinking about a 24-hour ride since 2017. “Primarily I wanted to have fun, while drawing people’s attention to the practicality of electric motorcycles,” he explained. “Everything we have used is readily available from Zero and the route was on public roads.”

An avid electric motorbike enthusiast, Klawitter is a proud owner of a 2018 Zero ZF14.4, which was also his preferred mode of transportation in this particular excursion. With his bike, Klawitter was able to travel approximately 145 kilometers at a time, while cruising at freeway speeds. His pre-planned route in Germany started from Berlin and ended at the Land Centre for Renewable Energies in Neustrelitz.

For the record, the German motorcyclist made sure to equip himself with Zero’s new Charge “tank” and accessory quick chargers. The “tank” allowed connection to Level Two public charging points situated across Europe while the powerful quick chargers gave the motorbike a full charge within an hour’s time.

During the 9.5 hours spent charging, he made sure to charge his own batteries, taking the opportunity to eat and also get some rest.

“I was able to speak to many people who were interested in the bike and the journey. The technology worked great and the average speed was 46.4 km/h including the breaks,” said Klawitter.
