From Rumours To Reality: The New Redshift MXR

Posted On : 04-02-2018

There were speculations around Alta Motors’ new motocross line, with some saying it might be an R-spec machine. Well, the Silicon Valley-based company just released their new motorcycle and it seems like many were right.

The 208 Alta Motor Redshift MXR is a stout 50hp and 147lb-ft of torque while the ‘wet’ weight machine has been reduced by 8lbs, now it is a ready-to-ride 259lbs. Ready to rival the 350cc machines from KTM and Husqvarna, the new model has increased performance and many more upgrades.

One of it is the reduced recharge time to just 1.5 hours on a 240-volt power source, saving 30 minutes compared to the standard model. In the electronics department, the MXR claims to have better thermal management for the battery pack.

Its WP rear shock unit and AER 48 fork combination delivers greater adjustability and much lower mass to better suit a broad range of riders and terrain. Even the foot pegs were redesigned to improve grip and stability with their aggressive tooth profile as well as to provide an increased comfort with the adjusted riding angle – a lower mass and better performance in the mud. On the MXR are Dunlop Geomax MX3S tires developed in AMA Supercross and Motorcross, providing enhanced handling and grip regardless of the terrain.

"The 2018 MXR incorporates feedback from all of our factory riders, customers, dealers, and press. We are committed to making the most compelling MX bike in the market, not just the electric market," said Jeff Sand, Alta Motors' Chief Design Officer. "The 2018 MXR is the pinnacle expression of engineering in service of rider control. Control gives a more exhilarating and fulfilling motorcycle experience. The MXR delivers."

"We've updated and enhanced well over 20% of the parts on the Redshift, demonstrating Alta's commitment to leading the development of electric motorcycles and producing the best motorcycle in the world," said Derek Dorresteyn, Chief Technical Officer. "The 2018 MXR's increased performance, better control, and lower mass all add up to more fun on the track or trail. When coupled with Alta's revolutionary adjustable throttle mapping systems, the MXR delivers an unmatched capability to our riders."

The MXR is an impressive indication of what can be done with electric motors. The MSRP of the 2018 Redshift MXR will be $11,995, with the option of new Rapid Charger for $799 or a standard charger at $499.

Stay tuned for more updated on the 2018 Redshift MXR.
