In the short term, a system known as the ARAS will be implemented on Ducati motorcycles. ARAS stands for Advanced Rider Assistance System and will aim to increase the safety levels of the rider via sensors and radars.

There will be a warning system based on the rear radar which has the ability to identify the presence of any vehicle in the blind spot or any traffic approaching at high speed from behind. The package is completed with a second radar sensor at the front of the bike. This helps to manage the adaptive cruise control that helps maintain a safe distance from other vehicles as well as warn the rider of any risks of distraction-related collisions. Lastly, there will be an advanced user interface designed to alert the rider of any existing dangers.

By providing feedback on the surrounding environment, Ducati hopes to help prevent possible collisions with obstacles or other vehicles. The ARAS will be installed on one of the Ducati models coming in 2020.

Other aspects of the Safety Road Map include the implementation of the progressive extension of the Bosch ABS Cornering System. This particular system enhances active braking, allowing for full braking grip control even when cornering for top-level safety.

Ducati is also working with Dainese to produce a special Airbag jacket designed to deploy in just 45 milliseconds. The airbag is capable of split-second inflation and is intelligent enough to sense the difference between a potentially dangerous accident and other kinds of minor accidents. Seamlessly integrated into the biker’s jacket, it protects both the rider and the passenger’s exposed body parts.

With these new updates coming up (or already installed), the motorcycling experience will no doubt be safer - which is something definitely integral to any rider.
