Ducati unveils a new member for the Ducati Monster family: Ducati Monster 821

Posted On : 10-07-2014

Monster family, called Il Mostro in Italy, is one of the longest and, without doubt, the most successful line in the entire Ducati family. With a clear design of "less is more", good quality components and parts, and not as hard to ride, or as powerful, as a sports bike it has sold over 290.000 units and it's been present on Ducati since 1993. It has gone a long way since the introduction of the first Ducati Monster M900. The family has expanded, contracted and advanced during the years. The model remained practically, on the exterior, the same until the year 2008, when a major redesign was done. On the next years Ducati has upgraded components, power, torque but the design has remained mostly unchanged.

On 2013, Ducati unveiled the Ducati Monster 1200 S on the EICMA. Powered by a Testastretta 11º DS of second generation but without losing any of the monster signs of identity it was extremely well received by costumers. So now Ducati offer us a smaller version of the Ducati Monster 1200 S, the Ducati Monster 821.

It has the same chassis as the Monster 1200 S, actually, esthetically is almost identical to the Monster 1200 S, and it has the latest technologies from Ducati, such as three mode ABS, 8 level traction control or the ride by wire with three mode driving styles that Ducati has offered in the last years. It has premium quality components, such as Brembo Brakes, top of the line suspensions and of course the tubular steel chassis and the liquid cooled Testastretta 11º DS engine, lowered to 821cc that delivers 112 hp and 9.1 kgm at 7.750 rpm on 179.5kg – 395.7lb (dry weight). Ducati claims to have managed a very friendly bike, easy to ride.

Ergonomically, the Ducati Monster 821 has, as the Monster 1200 S, a regulation system on the seat that allows shorter riders to fit on the bike more easily and feel more secure once they are in it. Another difference that will adjust the price a little bit is that the bigger Monster uses a single-sided swing arm rear suspension, while the 821 has a simpler and less-costly double-sided design.

This bike looks a great starting point to the Monster family, it's the natural substitute of the Ducati Monster 796 and a middle point between the Ducati Monster 696 and the mentioned Ducati Monster 1200 S.

The entry price will be 10.500€ and $10,995 for the 821 Dark and $11,495 for the standard version. It is expected to be available on July and the regular 821 comes in red with a red trellis frame and black wheels or white with a red frame and red wheels while the Dark gets a Dark Stealth body, black frame and black wheels. Also, this bike, according to Ducati, will be made available to restricted license holders with the specially regulated power versions of 25kw for Switzerland and 35kw for other participating countries. On Singapore, no official price has been told by Ducati, but it's expected that the Ducati Monster 821 will have a price of around $28,000 to $33,000 and will require a Class 2 motorcycle license.
