Ducati Monster 821 - A notable upgrade to Ducati's well-known naked bike

Posted On : 02-11-2017

Since its inception in 1993, the Ducati Monster lineup has received a few upgrades throughout the years. Now, Ducati will be celebrating its 25-year anniversary with the launch of the 2018 Ducati Monster 821. We bring you some features.

First and foremost, a 7-inch thin film transistor (TFT) colour display showcases valuable information such as trip info, mode selection, speed, etc. Speaking of mode selection, you are able to switch between three different ride modes – Urban, Touring and Sport. Under the Sport mode, throttle response is significantly more aggressive and less smooth as compared to the other two modes.  Touring mode delivers more progressive throttle, offering ~109hp while Urban mode cuts the power to ~73hp.

Just like its previous iterations, the 821cc water-cooled Testastretta 11° engine is used. According to Ducati, the Monster 821 makes a power output of 109hp @ 9250rpm, and a torque of 86Nm @ 7750rpm. The ride-by-wire, twin-cylinder engine is also Euro4 compliant.

An anti-hop clutch is cable-actuated, and an up-down quickshifter can be installed as an accessory for about US$200.

Chassis wise, it remains similar to the Monster 1200. The main steel trellis frame is connected to the twin-cylinder heads, making it more compact. Ergonomically, the adjustable, plush seat gives the rider increased comfort.  You can adjust your seat height from 765mm, 785mm and 810mm, according to your personal preference. The Monster 821 boasts Pirelli Diablo Rosso III 120/70 ZR17 and 180/55 ZR17 for the front and rear tyres respectively. A supersport tyre, the Diablo Rosso III tyres offer superb handling and performance for that racetrack-like experience.

The Monster 821 will be arriving to US dealerships in December, with a price tag of $11,995. The bikes are available in matte black, yellow, and red. It is unknown if it will be available in Singapore.
