Ducati Marked Its Eighth Consecutive Sales Growth In 2017, Here’s How They Did It
Ducati Motor Holding, based in Bologna, Italy, has recently reported its year sales and it is looking better than its near-stall the past two years. Its domestic market grew by 12%, with 8, 806 motorcycles sold, while Spain saw a 28.3% gain amidst the recession. In total, though, Ducati delivered 55, 871 motorcycles to customers worldwide, about 400 more sold than in 2016 (55,451 units).
If KTM has reached their seventh record year in a row with a 17% sales growth, then Ducati has them beat.

The upward trend was also visibile in the European market, bike deliveries increasing by 4% to a total of 31, 123. In the United States, deliveries went up by 1.3%, while Argentina reached a growth rate of +66%. 5, 805 motorcycles were delivered in Asia, Ducati strengthening its position in China (+31%) as the dealership network doubled in size from nine to 18.

Domenicali, who joined Ducati Motorcycles as a project leader in 1991, became the successor to Gabriele Del Torchio in 2013 when the former was announced the new Ducati CEO.

“2017 was another great year for Ducati,” said CEO Claudio Domenicali, “both commercially and racing-wise.
“We battled it out for the MotoGP title all the way to the last race, won six GPs and brought home the best results since 2009. Continuous renewal of the product range and a strong focus on creating motorcycles of the utmost quality has allowed us to keep on growing despite the problems affecting the world market. I extend heartfelt thanks to all the men and women whose passion makes it possible, every day, to build these extraordinary bikes. Their work has made Ducati an emblem of Italian excellence.”
“Despite a shrinking global market, we’ve succeeded in increasing our market share,” said Andrea Buzzoni, Global Sales and Marketing Director of Ducati. “We’ve expanded significantly in both consolidated markets such as Italy and Spain and in strategic emerging markets like China and Argentina. This is thanks to a range capable of generating loyalty among Ducatisti all over the world yet also winning over new customers with models such as the SuperSport, Multistrada 950 and the Scrambler family.
“Moreover, the sales success of the 1299 Superleggera and 1299 Panigale R Final Edition confirm our technological and brand leadership in the high-end sport bike segment.”
