Dakar 2015: Mysterious Death

It is depressing to hear that there are life claimed at one of the world biggest event, the Dakar Rally. Dakar Rally is considered to be one of the most dangerous racing event in the world. Similarly to the Isle of Man TT, the Dakar Rally have also claimed quite a number of lives. Many were killed, many were seriously injured while some lucky ones survived with some minor scratches. With its death rate, it was then deem as one of the most dangerous racing event. This competition has been going on for years and years. It is really sad to hear that one life were taken away just at the start of the racing event, Dakar Rally 2015.

 

This year's Dakar Rally, was definitely another exciting event. However, disaster struck. During the Stage 3 of the event, there was a motionless body found. It was one of the rider, Michal Hernik (no. 82). It was only the third day into the compeition. The 39 years old rider's body was found at about 300 metres from the desert track, between San Juan and Chilecito. However, no obvious injury was found on his body and no damage were seen on his motorbike. This, however, is a mystery unsolved because according to the race director Etienne Lavigne, there were not signs of accident. Lavigne then added on saying that when the body of the competitor was found, he was not wearing helmet.

 

 

 

Hernik's satellite tracker has stopped sending signals. In addition, the official was notified that Hernik did not complete the special stage at 15:16. The organiser then had no choice but to send an ambulance helicopter to look around for Henrik. The search starts at around 15:23 and body of the competitor was found at around 16:03. On-board doctor then pronounced the man dead. This tragedy was the fifth death since the rally was moved to South America. Condolences were expressed to Michal's family, close friends and team by the entire Dakar family.
