The New BMW F 450 RR Combines 48 HP Power, Lightweight Design And Innovative Easy Ride Clutch Technology. Future Design And Specification Of The Bike May Differ.

BMW Motorrad is bringing its legendary RR supersport DNA into a more accessible motorcycle category with the introduction of the all-new BMW F 450 RR, a lightweight sportsbike designed to deliver genuine racing excitement without the intimidating performance of a litre-class superbike. Developed specifically for the 48-horsepower A2 licence category, the F 450 RR combines a newly developed 420cc parallel-twin engine, aggressive styling inspired by the BMW S 1000 RR, and an impressive 177 kg ready-to-ride weight. Unlike a simple faired version of an existing motorcycle, BMW has engineered the F 450 RR with supersport-specific chassis geometry, ergonomics and suspension settings to provide sharp handling on winding roads and racetracks. The motorcycle also introduces advanced features such as BMW's optional Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), multiple riding modes, cornering ABS, traction control and a premium 6.5-inch TFT display. According to BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch, the new F 450 RR represents the perfect entry into the BMW RR family, combining lightweight construction, precise handling and an engaging riding experience for both newcomers and experienced motorcyclists.

420cc Parallel-Twin Engine Delivers 48 HP and 43 Nm of Torque

At the heart of the BMW F 450 RR is a newly developed 420cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected parallel-twin engine, originally introduced with the BMW F 450 GS but specifically tuned for supersport performance. The engine produces 35 kW (48 hp) at 8,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm, delivering a balance of responsive acceleration and accessible power. Impressively, BMW claims that 80% of the engine's maximum torque is already available at just 3,000 rpm, allowing the motorcycle to accelerate confidently without constantly requiring high engine speeds. A distinctive 135-degree crankpin offset creates an uneven firing character, while a balance shaft helps minimise unwanted vibrations and improve refinement. BMW has also incorporated magnesium clutch and transmission covers to reduce weight, along with a stainless-steel underfloor exhaust system featuring two catalytic converters. Power is delivered through a six-speed manual transmission and X-ring chain final drive, with Shift Assistant Pro available on all versions except the base model, allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts. The engine meets Euro 5+ emissions regulations, while claimed fuel consumption of 3.8 litres per 100 km and a 14-litre fuel tank provide a calculated riding range exceeding 350 km, making the F 450 RR suitable for everyday journeys as well as weekend sports riding.

BMW Easy Ride Clutch Makes Supersport Riding Easier Without Losing Manual Control

One of the most interesting technologies available on the BMW F 450 RR is the innovative Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), designed to reduce rider workload while preserving the familiar experience of a manual motorcycle. The system uses a centrifugal clutch mechanism that automatically engages according to engine speed, allowing riders to pull away from a standstill and come to a stop without manually operating the clutch lever. When combined with Shift Assistant Pro, the system also enables gear changes without clutch lever operation during normal riding, although the traditional clutch lever remains available whenever the rider wants direct control. Unlike a fully automatic transmission, the F 450 RR still uses a conventional six-speed gearbox, meaning riders continue selecting gears themselves. Another important advantage is that the clutch remains engaged during deceleration, preserving engine braking until the motorcycle approaches idle speed, when it disengages automatically to prevent stalling. The ERC is included on the F 450 RR M Sport with Innovation Package and can be retrofitted to other variants using genuine BMW Motorrad accessories. The system adds just 1 kg, increasing the ready-to-ride weight from 177 kg to 178 kg. For riders navigating heavy traffic or enjoying demanding mountain roads, this technology offers a distinctive combination of convenience, control and sporting character.

Lightweight Chassis, Brembo Brakes and Race Electronics Deliver True RR Performance

The BMW F 450 RR is built around a lightweight tubular steel space frame, incorporating the engine as a load-bearing component to improve rigidity and handling precision. Its compact dimensions, short wheelbase and supersport-specific geometry are designed to provide responsive steering and confident stability during aggressive cornering. Suspension duties are handled by a 43 mm KYB upside-down front fork and a KYB rear shock absorber connected to a lightweight hollow-cast aluminium double-sided swingarm. The rear suspension offers adjustable preload and rebound damping, while the Sport and M Sport variants gain a more adjustable front fork with compression and rebound damping adjustment. Braking performance comes from a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper, complemented by a 240 mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch cast-aluminium wheels, fitted with 110/70-17 front and 150/60-17 rear tyres. Standard electronic rider aids include ABS Pro for cornering braking assistance, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and engine drag torque control (MSR), alongside Rain, Road and Race riding modes. Higher-specification models with Riding Modes Pro introduce a configurable Race Pro mode, providing additional flexibility for racetrack riding. BMW has even included a reversible gearshift pattern, allowing riders to adopt a racing-style shift arrangement.

Four BMW F 450 RR Variants Bring Superbike Styling and Premium Features to the A2 Class

Visually, the BMW F 450 RR takes strong inspiration from the larger BMW S 1000 RR, featuring an aggressive nose-down stance, raised tail, aerodynamic winglets, asymmetrical side fairings and a distinctive LED headlight with BMW's signature RR daytime running light design. The motorcycle is available in four equipment variants, beginning with the F 450 RR Base in Cosmic Black, followed by the F 450 RR Sport in Racing Red, which adds Shift Assistant Pro and adjustable Sport suspension. The more premium F 450 RR M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package feature the distinctive Snaefell White / M Motorsport colour scheme, Riding Modes Pro, Shift Assistant Pro and Sport suspension, with the Innovation Package additionally introducing Easy Ride Clutch technology. Despite its racetrack-inspired appearance, the F 450 RR offers everyday practicality through a 790 mm seat height, adjustable seat options ranging from 775 mm to 810 mm, standard heated grips, full LED lighting and a 6.5-inch TFT instrument display with smartphone connectivity, navigation and a USB-C charging port. M Sport versions also offer dedicated Sport display layouts showing information such as lean angle, braking force, traction control activity and lap times. With its 48 hp parallel-twin engine, 177 kg ready-to-ride weight, sophisticated electronics and innovative clutch technology, the BMW F 450 RR promises an exciting new entry point into BMW Motorrad's supersport family, offering riders the thrill of an RR motorcycle in a lighter, more approachable package.
