BMW has just released a new iteration of the K 1600, the Grand America - combining comfort and technology into one

German motorcycle and automobile manufacturer recently launched the 2018 BMW K1600 Grand America, an amazing addition to the K1600 family.

Featuring a similar 1649cc liquid-cooled six-cylinder engine which delivers 160hp at 7750rpm and 129ft/lbs of torque at 5250rpm mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the bike was manufactured for touring in mind. Ergonomically, the comfort level is enhanced for the rider, along with an integrated pillion back-rest. In fact, the pillion seat was reduced by ~6.9cm because of a redesigned rear frame. Seat height is also reduced for the rider as well. Forward foot-boards for a ‘feet forward’ riding posture are available for the Grand America too.

There are three different riding modes, Dynamic, Road and Rain. Various other features include heated grips, traction control, as well as an additional brake light built in the topcase. Suspension wise, the front wheel runs on a BMW Motorrad Duolever while the rear wheel runs on a Paralever. Contributing to the performance of the bike is also the BMW’s Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) with “Road” and “Cruise” damping modes. Furthermore, Reverse assist can be activated by pressing the handlebar panel on the left side.

Stopping power is provided by four-piston fixed calipers squeezing two 320mm brake discs in the front and two-piston floating caliper on a 320mm brake disc out back. The motorcycle is ABS compatible as well.

The 364kg (wet weight) comes in two colour schemes: the Blackstorm metallic, or the “Style Package” which combines Blackstorm metallic and Austin Yellow metallic.

The K1600 Grand America will be available in Australia in April 2018. Availability in Singapore is unknown.
