Dubbed the Ather S340, this highly anticipated motorcycle promises to change the way people would typically perceive electric transport.
Performance wise, the Ather S340 has a range of about 60 km on a single charge, has a top speed of 72 km/h and is claimed to be able to do a 0-40 km/h sprint in about five seconds or so. It runs on an electric motor capable of reaching 6.4 bhp and 14 Nm of peak torque - more than the regular petrol-powered scooter sold in India.

The scooter also gets a “battery management system” which helps to monitor the battery level and range it offers. The battery sits under the floorboard for a low centre of gravity and is both water and dust proof.

With high capacity for range, high power output for acceleration, long life and fast charging, the power-pack provided also features the intelligent Battery Management System and a range prediction algorithm to help predict the range accurately.

The electrically powered motor and battery pack will work in tandem to power the scooter both forward and backward.

Yes, you read that right. The Ather S340 bike has a reverse mode that reportedly acts just like a reverse gear, allowing the rider to glide out of tight parking spaces with ease.

Technology also has a hand in powering this vehicle.

The S340 features a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen which offers information such as vehicle range, speed, trip meters and maps to help the rider navigate the roads. Two riding modes - Sport and Economy - are also offered to suit the personal needs of each rider.

Ather has also developed a smartphone application that can be connected with the motorbike. The app will allow the rider to configure their ride and profile preference, plus has the ability to alert the owner if the vehicle has been stolen.

Charging will be awfully convenient as well; with the intelligent AtherGrid available at the right places, recharging your S340 has never been more reliable. While at home, the Ather charging point is equipped with “surge protection and authenticated power transfer”, and an auto cut-off and app integration so that leaving your vehicle to charge overnight will still be safe and hasslefree.

As for charging outdoors, the company claims that the rider will never be more than 4 km away from a Point, and all Points will have at least one fast charger. Fast charging allows the bike to go up to 50 km of range within an hour. Alternatively, plugging the S340 to any regular 5A socket using the charging socket is also another, more convenient option.

Physically, the Ather S340 is impressive. At the front the bike is equipped with a smart LED headlamp that operates itself depending on light conditions, so that it can control to the intensity of the headlights to suitable illuminate the rider’s path.

Under the rider seat, there is a splash of green to contrast the scooter’s sleek white body, giving it an attractive and futuristic look. The scooter can also accommodate two helmets under the seat.

All in all, the electric bike is said to “offer an exhilarating ride and a hassle-free ownership experience”. Given that the founders of the company are said to be committed to building smart, connected, uncompromising vehicles, there should be a lot of exciting news in store for us, from both the company and the Ather S340 itself.
