Another One Bows Out Of Racing: 22-Year-Old Juanfran Gevara Retires Because of Personal Reasons

Posted On : 29-12-2017

At the ripe age of 22, Moto3 racer Juanfran Guevara is leaving the motorcycle racing industry for good.

The Spaniard cited financial reasons and “mainly personal ones” as the push that came to shove. He has had 5 seasons in Moto3, making his debut in 2012 and finishing as 11th this year, his only podium in the series at the Mugello Circuit in Tuscany, Italy.

“To all of you, THANKS,” said Juanfran Guevara in his recent press release about his retirement.

Guevara was set to stay with the RBA BOÉ Racing team for a third season but decided to focus on his studies instead. For the time being, Gabriel Rodrigo remains to be the sole rider for the team as Guevara’s seat at the table has become vacant.

The decision is irrevocable, according to Guevara, one that his family helped him make. Although his “passion for the world of motorcycling has not changed at all”, he has decided to focus on his upcoming business career as well as the studies he has been simultaneously pursuing as he raced in the Motorcycle World Championship.

“I believe that in this way I will be able to grow more as a person,” explained Guevara. “and also dedicate more time to different projects that I have been developing over the last few years and that until now I have not been able to defend as they deserve.”

Another main reason for his retirement is to spend more time with his family. For all of the sacrifices he has made “in order to give 100% in the circuits”, now he wants to dedicate his new-found time for his family as well as to recover friendships left in the wayside when he went after his racing career.

Extending his gratitude towards the RBA-BOÉ Racing Team for their understanding, he wrote, “I wish you good luck in your next seasons in the Motorcycle World Championship. Thanks for the support and for trusting me during these years.”

He did not forget his roots, of course, thanking Team Murcia as well for being with him ever since he started and looking after his management.

“Lastly,” he wrote, “and for me the most important thing, you are all those fans who have worn the 58 on all circuits as a symbol of support. The Fan Club will be part of me throughout my life. You have been the reason why I have given more to this issue. There will never be enough words to thank you for everything.

I close a stage of my life that took with me a multitude of moments, and above all, wonderful people that I will never forget. To all of you, my parents and Miguel, THANK YOU.”
