Another Lesson on Safety Gear When Riding

Posted On : 06-03-2018

“I’m not dead!” shouts motorcycle vlogger Hammy Moto in trepidation and awe right after he collided with a tractor-trailer on a Southern California freeway and came away slightly unscathed but still living.

The POV video begins immediately as Hammy Moto’s Kawasaki Z1000 begins to have a violent headshake before crashing near a tractor-trailer and just nearly missing its huge wheels that can effectively run over somebody.

What didn’t happen is even worse than what did...

He skids all the way to the right of the vehicle and plops himself down at the side of the freeway as people, most likely the driver of the trailer and its passenger, begin to surround him for assistance.

“I’m very lucky to be alive,” Hammy Moto said on the description box of his Youtube video. “I slid through a tiny gap between the trucks rear tires and the trailer stand. If was going any slower or faster, I wouldn't of been so fortunate.

“The only injuries I got were a very small amount of road rash on my knee and hip. Nothing broken. I'm very blessed.”

Many in the comments of his published video were guessing that Hammy Moto was doing a wheelie, hence the shakiness of the bike. But the rider himself dismissed these claims and clarified that as he was changing to second gear (where the clip started), he had his weight “WAY too far back on the bike while accelerating”, and “that mixed with the extremely bumpy freeway and the acceleration of the bike caused the front wheel to go extremely light”.

He was fortunate that he was wearing his riding gear as even in the video he didn’t look too worse for wear. However, the same can’t be said with the trauma that experience might have caused him.

Riding safely is not just a phrase we like to pull out when incidents like these happen, but they do have to be reiterated because these incidents do happen. So, just one more time for those who still hasn’t gotten it, wear your gear and ride safe, everybody.

Even Hammy Motto recognizes his luck in escaping largely unscathed, saying, “I’m truly blessed to walk away.

“Please ride safe, everyone. You don’t walk away from an accident like this twice.”
