92-Year-Old Female Biker Gets Early Birthday Present in the Form of a Motorcycle Ride

92-year-old Gerry Bauer often tells her fellow residents at the Carolinian Retirement Community all about the days when she went motorcycling.

It had been 30 years since she had ridden a motorcycle, but evidently her passion and enthusiasm for the two-wheeled machines has not been dampened. And so the residents, Bauer’s family and a group of motorcycle enthusiasts put their heads together to prepare an advanced birthday present for the elderly lady, who would be turning 93 on June 25th.

The present in question was a motorcycle ride in a sidecar, as Bauer is presumably not physically fit enough to ride a motorbike. For the surprise event, biker Richard Swenson volunteered his vehicle.

According to SC Now, a Facebook friend had tagged Swenson in a post a few days back, asking if the latter was willing to give Bauer a ride. Swenson had said he was honoured to be a part of the surprise.

“That’s what we live for. Once you get on a motorcycle and ride, you never forget it… Once you’re in the lifestyle, you’re always in the lifestyle. It was our treasure and our honour to do it,” the man said.

Bauer’s daughter, Pat McCrackin, said that her mother was “in hog heaven” and was extremely elated about her early birthday present ride.

“This is just a special day for her, a dream come true,” McCrackin said.

When asked which motorcycle Bauer wanted to ride on, she reportedly said “both”. Evidently eager to start her ride in downtown Florence, the birthday girl was all smiles and looking chic in her new leather vest and motorbike helmet.

While in the pastel blue and cream coloured sidecar, Bauer had turned to Swenson during the ride and said: “This is heaven.”

Swenson also enjoyed himself, as he had spoken to the local news team and stated that he takes pleasure in giving people rides in sidecars who may not have an opportunity to ride on a motorcycle.

With another motorcycle memory to add to her photo collage, Bauer now has another adventure to regale the residents at the Carolinian with.
