5-year old Boy Cruises down the Streets of Indonesia
In a video that has gone viral online, a young boy was shown riding around the busy roads of Indonesia with a similarly aged passenger. As common as it is to see motorcycles as the main mode of transportation in Indonesia, the sight of such a young rider on the roads is far from common, even if the motorbike he was riding is a mini one.
The incident took place last wednesday, 4th April in Indonesian province East Java. From the video, we can see 5-year old Restu getting pulled over by the police who were clearly surprised to see such a young rider cruising along the streets. Allegedly on his way to his cousin’s house, he and his passenger got intercepted by the cops. The young biker could be heard telling the police that since he was wearing a helmet, he is allowed to ride the motorcycle. While we applaud his safety knowledge, his fellow passenger was not wearing one and even then, the two boys were still way too young to be riding the main roads. Restu then showed terror at the mere thought of his mini motorbike getting taken away, even crying that he did not have enough money to get another one. The police, however, reassured him that they would not take his bike away and even offered to escort him back to his house.
The police then found out that some of young Restu’s family members, including his father, was involved in motorcycle racing, which was probably part of the reason the boy felt that he was ready to hit the roads. According to his grandparents, whom the boy lives with, Restu usually only rides his motorbike around the yard at his home. The grandparents were then advised to keep a close eye on Restu, as underage motorists pose a hazard to others on the road.
