University Graduate to Travel the World and Volunteer on Homemade Motorbike

26-year-old University of Colorado-Boulder graduate Arthur Bremner is planning to embark on a trip around the world to volunteer for hospitals and various organizations - all while on a motorcycle that he built himself.

According to Denver Post, the young man had already begun planning for the trip about two years ago, and during that time had also bought, disassembled and rebuilt the motorcycle he plans to use.

Bremner had started learning to ride motorcycles since he was 16, and had also taught himself how to customize and rebuild the motorized machines.

“I’ve been riding bikes for over 10 years now, and not having a bunch of money, I would always have to learn how to fix things,” he said. “I think that taught me how to fix it and put it back together.”

The 18-month journey will take Bremner through hospitals in Honduras, Guatemala and Peru later this year, where he will be teaching children the basics of nutrition as well as helping doctors and nurses with the overflowing clinics within the area.

He then aims to travel to Peru later in October, together with a team of medical staff to bring care to some of the more isolated and remote areas there. Bremner will then finish his journey in Asia.

Speaking to Denver Post, the youth said: “I’d love to become a more empathetic, humble person,” he said. “I think that person, foremost, is my ultimate goal, but I also want to spread a positive message. I want people to see these countries as a community, not just places we check off on a list (to visit).”

As Bremner had graduated with a degree in integrative physiology, he also hopes to gain valuable experience so that he can achieve his future goal in becoming a physician’s assistant.

The two-wheeled transportation of Bremner’s choice is the ever reliable 2000 Honda XR650L. However, due to some issues with the bike he had to disassemble and subsequently restore the entire motorcycle. While working on the bike, Bremner also added numerous modifications to enhance its capabilities.

Other than having to rebuild the motorcycle, Bremner also had difficulties in reaching the point where he’s at today. Before university, he had been smoking marijuana and neglecting his studies in favour of partying. Thankfully, he managed to turn over a new leaf with the help of a friend.

With his travels, Bremner thus hopes to provide an example for others. “I want people to see you can do good and entirely change your life for the better,” he said.

Bremner plans to depart for this journey on 20th July. In the meantime, he is currently raising funds for the trip on GoFundMe.
