Founded in the 1950s, California based Bell Helmets has been at the front line for the design, manufacture and distribution of motorcycle helmets and accessories. Thanks to their innovative technology and neat designs, Bell is now synonymous with protection and progression, and they have just come up with something new to improve the riding experience yet again.

The company has just recently announced their first proprietary photochromatic shield - the ProTint, which was developed after years of research and development by Bell’s engineering team.

According to Chris Sackett, the vice president of Bell Helmets, “ProTint is the first self-adjusting shield technology developed by riders, for riders, and the ideal complement to our more-expansive Panavision viewport.”

“Virtually every rider has experienced the challenges, and potential hazards, associated with rapidly changing light conditions, and ProTint addresses this, allowing riders the peace of mind to stay completely focused throughout the ride,” he continued.

The press release from the company states that ProTint’s adaptive shield technology offers “exceptional clarity” in conditions with little light, yet also has the ability to quickly darken when exposed to bright lights.

This reaction would allow the rider’s eyes to adjust comfortably to the changing light conditions throughout the day. Furthermore, ProTint also offers “unrivalled detail with lenses”, which are designed to provide enhanced contrast to the rider. This will improve the rider’s ability to discern various shapes and colours faster while also reducing eye strain.

To put it in short, ProTint’s photochromatic technology will self-adjust to random changes in lighting conditions, equipping riders with optimal clarity regardless of it being night or day.

ProTint is designed to be compatible with the other Bell helmets that feature the Panovision viewport, such as the entire Star lineup and the all-new SRT Modular.
