Over the last five events, the Longest Day Down challenge has raised over $158,908 for the research society so far.
Here’s how the challenge works:
Typically, the riders will have between sunrise to sunset to travel from point A to point B. For this year’s challenge, it will take place on the 21st of June. The motorcyclists will have to get between the 2 furthest apart inhabited points on mainland Britain - in this case, Lands End to John O’Groats - on motorbikes that cost no more than $545.
In their own words, “the kind of motorbike that is held together by rust, mould and optimism.”
The concept of this is basically a charity motorbike run on “ridiculously cheap machines”.
With many limitations such as using designated routes and a completely unmodified fuel system, this trial will be all about endurance of both man and machine.

The itenary for the 2018 challenge is as follows:
- Riders will gather at the Lands End visitor centre on June 20th for awards, photography, riders briefing and registration
- There will then be a “Ceremonial Start” which will lead riders to Penzance, Premier Inn where they will stay before the challenge starts
- On the sunrise of 21st June, riders will set off for John O’Groats
- Upon arrival, they will then proceed to the “Natural Retreats” luxury log cabin accommodation to celebrate their success in completing the challenge
