Say Goodbye to Royal Enfield’s Continental GT 535

Posted On : 23-07-2018

It all started with the Indian motorcycle manufacturer announcing that they will be discontinuing the Continental GT 535 model on their home shores.

But now, sources have confirmed that the model will be discontinued in global markets as well.

First introduced in 2013 as a cafe racer, the Continental GT was considered the first of its kind from the Chennai-based brand due to its completely new design that was very different from the classic Royal Enfield bike.

It was considered a game changer for Royal Enfield too, as it had helped changed the perception many had of the motorcycle manufacturer. Unfortunately, the Continental GT 535 also lacked power due to its long-stroke single-cylinder engine, and riding performance was not up to standard either.

And so, although short-lived, the GT 535 will have to bid its final farewell.

Instead, it will be replaced by the more powerful GT 650, which was introduced alongside the new Interceptor 650 at the EICMA last November.

The new bikes will reportedly be powered by the all-new 648cc parallel-twin, fuel-injected, air-oil cooled motor. The engine will also be paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch, and dual-channel ABS will be offered as standard.

Furthermore, the GT 650’s chassis has been enhanced by Harris Performance, and hence now promises an improved agility and riding dynamics.

So, while it may be the end of the road for Royal Enfield’s Continental GT 535, the new motorbikes they will be introducing to the market will certainly more than make up for it.
