Probably the Most Powerful Electric Half-Motorcycle (aka a Unicycle)

Posted On : 05-05-2018

Aptly named the ‘Mega Hub Motor Electric Unicycle’, this self-balancing one-wheeled motorcycle is based on a 3000-watt brushless hub motor in a 17-inch wheel, with a smaller stabilizer wheel in front.

The bike utilizes a Kelly motor controller, usually found in electric boats, and a jet intake from an old aircraft. This innovative mish-mash of different technologies have resulted in something unique.

The creator of this unicycle is John Dingley, who appears to have an overwhelming love for these sorts of interesting vehicles. But even he admits that riding this vehicle is a terrifying experience. While he has not travelled using more than 20% of its maximum engine power due to safety concerns, he also noted that “the main speed limitation is fear.”

Dingley also claims that one only needs 5 minutes to learn how to ride this vehicle.

Dingley has also dreamt up and created many other “crazy machines” besides the ‘Mega Hub Motor Electric Unicycle’. You can follow the progress of his works on his YouTube page here.
