Hammerhead Sharks are the Muse of Hookie Co for their BMW R100/7

“As its future owner lives on a small farm in the Austrian Alps,” they said, “this Hammerhead shark will spend its life illuminating dark valleys and hunting down stock bikes for breakfast.”

They believe that every motorcycle has its own history and therefore, must be built with love, care and concentration on every detail. They also believe that real achievement is done through hard work and that progress, no matter how slow, is still progress.Who are ‘they’, you ask? Well, they’re none other than Hookie Co., a dynamic collective of motorcycle enthusiasts who “enjoy the good”. And they just came out with the BMW R100/7 that looks thunderously amazing.

The Dresden-based team was inspired by the Hammerhead shark’s seemingly simple construct and design for the sole purpose of hunting prey. Hammerhead sharks is a part of the Sphyrnidae family and was named for the lateral projections on their heads that give them a hammer-like shape which provides them with an evolved sensory function - electroreceptor sensors that can sweep over a wider area to prey on its food.

In an effort to replicate the purposeful and effective design of the Hammerhead, the Hookie squad got out one of their old BMW Airheads to play with which was showing visible signs of definite wear and tear. Clearly, all the mechanical parts had to be completely rebuilt – from the engine and carbs to the front suspension and brakes.

Although they cracked the motor open, they kept everything at OEM spec for top-notch reliability and even continued using the R100’s original airbox, deeming it “the best running set up so far”. And apart from a pair of aftermarket mufflers and a fresh black coating, the exhaust system stayed stock too.

They moved the Antigravity batter below the gearbox and hid all other electronic components underneath the stock tank, including the M-unit Blue that was sent to them before it was even officially released to the market.

They handmade the rear frame using a 25mm steel tube that goes along with YSS shocks in their original length and an Alcantra-clad saddle that’s able to carry two people or numerous amounts of bags. Meanwhile, the lowered the frontend by about 10cm and equipped it with holders for indicators and a Trucklite LED headlight. The lights don’t stop there as two more LED spotlights were mounted to ensure maximum sight and visibility during the darkest of nights.

There’s also an LED taillight embedded into the backseat and an aluminium fender mounted straight to the subframe. Risers, hadnlebars, throttle, levers, and switches are also brand new while the speedo came all the way from Koso, the master cylinder from Grimeca, and the ribbed Kung Fu grips from Biltwell Inc. The tires are a handsome set of Continental TKC80s that’s bound to spend an equal time on all types of terrains.
