Carpe Mortem, the Medically Capable Motorcycle Club

Posted On : 05-05-2018

Carpe Mortem is a motorcycle club comprising of members with varying amounts of medical training. Whether it be nurses, paramedics, combat military medics, EMTs or even just basic first aid, all the members are bonded by one thing - their passion for motorcycles.

Their name is taken from a Latin phrase; Carpe Mortem means to Seize Death, while their club motto is to “Restore Life”. This creates a rather beautiful synergy of Yin and Yang, of bringing two seemingly contradicting ideas together.

The members of Carpe Mortem apparently use riding as a means to get away from the stress and rigor of life in their medical fields.

“To just get out there and ride, it helps you just kind of let it all melt away,” a rider said in an interview with ABC News.

Another member, Derek Prucha, also says that “it’s like having a therapist you don’t have to pay for.”

Other than riding motorcycles, the members also enjoy the camaraderie within the club and share a common drive to help their fellow riders when injuries happen. This would be especially useful given their various backgrounds and capabilities in medical experience.

“If we see somebody on the side of the road, whether it’s gas, mechanical breakdown, or somebody that just needs help, we all stop always and help them,” the Vice President of Carpe Mortem, Rich Sheldon, tells ABS News.
