For the Bike Parts Hoarder and the Coffee Lover
What do you get when you combine creativity, spare bike parts and a penchant for coffee?
An espresso machine made from motorbike engine parts, of course!
This is exactly what engineering extraordinaire Rulof Maker came up with. The Italian, who is an expert at creating things out of salvaged parts, decided to show his love for espresso coffee through spare bike parts and… parts from an IKEA lamp. (We’ll get to the lamp part later.)

First, here’s a quick rundown on how espresso machines work - by forcing pressurized, almost boiling water through ground coffee.
Rulof’s bike parts of choice would therefore be the piston and cylinder from an old motorbike. After all, the cylinder and piston are already built to work like a press. By putting the water into the piston cylinder and levering the piston down onto it, this forces the water out the bottom of the cylinder and through the waiting coffee grounds.
How cool is that?
As for the IKEA lamp, well, parts from the household item make up the base where the cup sits on waiting to be filled by the caffeinated beverage.
Check out the process, shown by the master himself, in the video above.
Of course, the first step before starting on the building process would be to thoroughly clean out the bike parts. After all, even the most passionate motorhead would probably not appreciate the taste of gasoline in their morning coffee.
With a clean contraption ready to go, this made-of-motorbike-parts espresso machine will be the answer to your needs as both a biker and coffee lover.
